Manic Monday: Only 9 Mondays left this year // New Years Resolutions?

Good morning my cherries and daggers!

Hope y’all had a fab weekend and don’t feel zombified like me – and mind you, this is after 2 cups of coffee, blegh…

Anyway, I had such a rough week last week. First I got super sick, then I went for to apply to work in America through a company and they rejected me, so that was a fail.

Last week just sucked the fun right out of me, so I’ve been spending the last 3 days downloading unlimited music and Big Bang Theory episodes figuring out my next move.

I’ve also been philosophizing – is that a word? – about the fact that there are only 9 Mondays left this year and that I should probably make my list of New Years Resolutions.

So here’s what I’ve come up with:

  • Lose weight the amount of a small baby giraffe
  • Make more Youtube videos
  • Actually own and drive a car (even though I’m scared for my life and the lives of others)
  • Go on holiday at the beach (as I haven’t even seen the beach in over 6 years)
  • Do more shoots with way more interesting themes
  • Get Liz Vicious, Jenna Marbles and Taylor Momsen to travel to SA and we can make baby bearodactyls – I wish
  • Start my own business (hopefully)
  • Own as many seasons of Supernatural, Big Bang Theory and Dexter as a person can possibly own without getting caught by the police for downloading.

#justsaying

So you see, I’m quite a simple person.

I just want the little things in life, that’s all – LOL!

What are your New Years Resolutions?

Tell me….

In the meantime enjoy The Pterodactyl Song to get my Bearodactyl joke!

WTF Wednesday: Accents

Good morning my lovely cherries and daggers!

So I’ve had a couple of people ask me why, if I’m South African, do I have an American-sounding accent. Some people tell me it’s bullshit and that I don’t have one and others tell me I do. I personally don’t think I have one, but hey, not everyone can be wrong.

But it had me thinking, don’t we all have accents?

Just because mine isn’t the same as the guy in District 9’s or the people in Die Antwoord’s, doesn’t mean I’m not proudly South African, it’s just because I grew up among people who didn’t necessarily speak with thick Afrikaans accents.

On my dad’s side of the family we had the typical Afrikaans people who loved their brandy, Kurt Darren music and loved to “sokkie” while speaking pure Afrikaans (and despite my English accent – or American – I speak Afrikaans fluently) and on my mom’s side we had the very posh, English and Scottish people who loved their tea (lol).

I’ve also grown to love a lot of people who are involved in The Arts, people who naturally seem to speak with an accent. So yes, at the end of the day my accent probably doesn’t sound 100% South African, but what is that anyway? We’re a multi-cultured, multi-raced, multi-personality rainbow nation going on around here!

Well here’s an example of what most people classify as a South African accent, so enjoy:

Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Manic Monday: 65 Days Till Halloween

Hello again my sexies!

Sorry for the late post. My pc has now decided that it doesn’t like wordpress.com and will give me endless grief whenever I feel like posting something here. So THANK YOU COMPUTER! You’re awesome, truely, you are.

Anyway back to the topic. Did you know it’s only 65 days till Halloween?

Image

Well you do now!

So, in South Africa (where I’m from) Halloween isn’t a big deal. Trick or Treating for kids and decorating the house for the “holiday” isn’t done like it is in other countries around the world. There’s no “Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat” singing, no little Jersey Shore hooker dressups for kids under the age of 12 or reasons for us to go knocking on people’s doors at the late hours of the night. Unless you want to be scolded or shot.

Basically Halloween in SA is something only a handful of non-conservative teen and 20-somethings celebrate by dressing scary and going to the nearest rock club and win prizes.

Some people go all out, dressing as the characters from Avatar or Mortal Kombat, some hire costumes, some buy them, some get professional makeup artists to paint zips and scars on them while others simply wear fairy wings and consider themselves “dressed up” and expect to get into clubs for free for their “effort”.

Halloween can be fun if you go the extra mile and make for some killer pictures!

Image

So, I’m not telling you what I’m dressing as, but hopefully I’ll look awesome enough to post pictures here!

Know what you’re going as yet?

Tell me, I’d love to hear!

Tribute Thursday: Seether

Good morning my pretties,

Hope you all slept well and had beautiful nightmares!

Today I’m tributing a very popular band who I’ve loved since they were not really too famous and even though they are from my home country, I have never seen them in concert. I know, shocking right?

SEETHER

Seether formed in the late 1990’s in Pretoria, South Africa and are a post-grunge / alternative metal band with hits like Fake it, Remedy and their rock version of George Michael’s Careless Whisper.

With 6 studio albums and 2 digital albums behind their name, 2,235,433 facebook fans, numerous awards and being on the Billboard charts multiple times, they are by far the most successful South African band to date – and with good reason!

Their lyrics are meaningful, their songs are easy to listen to and they are epicness personified.

Don’t believe me?

Check out their music videos and live shows below!

Happy Thursday!
